Xifaxan, the active ingredient in all weight-loss medicines, has been shown to be effective in reducing obesity in up to 90% of patients. In this, we will examine the evidence base for orlistat (Xifaxan), and how it may impact weight management and health outcomes.
A small, randomised, placebo-controlled trial was conducted at three major UK weight-loss clinics:Tres Pineda Weight Loss Clinics,Saxenda Weight Loss Clinics, andLugo Weight Loss Clinics.
Patients were randomized to take one of three weight-loss tablets with orlistat, and were then switched to a different weight-loss regimen to control for potential weight gain and weight reduction. In addition, the trial was designed to assess how effective orlistat was in reducing weight.
The primary objective was to assess the effect of orlistat on weight. Secondary objectives were to assess weight change after switching patients to the new regimen, and to assess the effect of switching patients to orlistat on weight.
The trial was led by Dr David Nix and colleagues. They investigated whether orlistat reduces weight and weight loss over a six-month period.
They recruited 120 patients from a single clinic in the UK. All the patients had a body mass index (BMI) of 27 and a body mass index of at least 30. All patients were obese with a BMI of over 30. The patients were initially assessed at baseline and then at three weeks, three months, and one year. At weeks three and three-month, weight loss and weight changes were assessed by a modified BMI questionnaire. Weight loss was measured using a standardized questionnaire and then compared to baseline to assess weight change.
At weeks three-month, weight loss was assessed using the BMI-calorie questionnaire.
After three months, the weight change was assessed using the BMI-calorie questionnaire.
For BMI, orlistat reduced the amount of fat that could be absorbed by the body, with a decrease in body fat being more common with orlistat.
For BMI, orlistat increased the number of liraglutide (Saxenda)-sensitive small bowel transit (ssb) fats absorbed by the gut. For sb, fat was absorbed by liraglutide-sensitive small bowel transit (ssb-LIS).
The change in BMI was also assessed at three months and three-month, after three-month, and three-month-1 and three-month-2 changes.
Results of orlistat reduced the amount of fat absorbed by the body with a decrease in body fat.
The changes in orlistat were not statistically different between orlistat-treated patients compared to patients receiving the placebo group.
Results showed that patients receiving orlistat reduced the amount of fat absorbed by the body by 27% and 25% compared to patients receiving placebo.
There was no evidence to suggest that the trial had significant benefits for weight reduction. Weight changes at three months, three months, and three-month changes were not statistically different from baseline in patients receiving orlistat. However, the trial’s main findings showed that patients who switched to orlistat had a reduced weight and weight loss, compared to those who switched to placebo.
At three months, three months, and three-month changes were statistically significant for patients who switched to orlistat compared to those who switched to placebo, and to patients who switched to orlistat compared to those who switched to placebo.
However, patients who switched to orlistat had an average increase in BMI of 16.5 kg/m2 at three months, compared to a mean increase of 26.7 kg/m2 at three months. Patients who switched to orlistat had a mean increase of 16.7 kg/m2 at three months, compared to a mean increase of 27.4 kg/m2 at three months. At three months, patients who switched to orlistat had an average increase of 13.9 kg/m2 compared to a mean increase of 15.9 kg/m2 at three months.
The trial showed that patients who switched to orlistat had a reduction in body fat, compared to those who switched to placebo.
This was the largest study to date to examine the effects of orlistat on weight management and weight change.
A total of 4,500 patients were randomised to take orlistat tablets.

If you’re new to weight loss treatments and want to learn more about them, we’re here to help.
Tablets like (the brand name for Orlistat) work by reducing the amount of fat your body absorbs. Ordinarily, fats are broken down during the digestion process by enzymes called lipases. Xenical prevents these enzymes from working effectively, limiting how much fat your body is able to absorb. The remaining, undigested fat is then excreted.
In contrast to Xenical, weight loss injections (or pens) work by suppressing your appetite - particularly your appetite for fatty foods. Some weight loss injections also slow the digestion process down, making you feel fuller for longer. They’re simple to use - check out our for more information.
Clinical trials have repeatedly demonstrated the effectiveness of both weight loss tablets and injections, particularly in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle., participants using lost almost 15% of their body weight over a 15-month period.
